Hitting the winners

This has been a great year for predictions for me. I only wish I could have found a way to cash in on them.
I’m running fourth out of 250-plus people in our Tribune contest of picking NFL games.
I went 50 for 51 – I missed in Indiana by picking McCain — in my pre-election electoral map. I hit Obama’s percentage (53) on the nose.
But never have I had more trepidation then when I picked the Cardinals to go 9-7 before the season started.
My finger took a circuitous route in reaching for that “9” key. Picking the Cardinals to have a winning season?
Unthinkable. At least I can’t ever remember doing it. My finger seemed to strain for a lower number before it finally hit the 9.
Now, it seems, they could even hit 10 wins. After all, they’re 5-3 and five of their remaining eight are at home.
But I’m not going to get ahead of myself. Besides, I don’t like changing predictions until they’re mathematically impossible.
So I’m sticking with 9-7.
