Cards release 3rd round pick Buster Davis

Davis, a linebacker from Florida State, was listed at 5-foot-9, 242 pounds. But this appeared generous.In any case he wasn’t able to crack the team’s two-deep roster. Whisenhunt had said this was a "big" week for Davis. Before the cuts were announced Whisenhunt hinted that draft status gives players an advantage heading into training camp, but that such stature fades as camp wears on.The Cardinals may try to bring Davis back to the practice squad; the club is on the hook for a signing bonus of about $600,000.Also cut was quarterback Shane Boyd, who played extensively in the pre-season, as the Cardinals decided to go with just two quarterbacks, and wide receiver LeRon McCoy, who caught 18 passes for the team in 2005.In a bit of a surprise, the Cardinals ended up keeping four tight ends: Leonard Pope; rookie free agent Troy Bienemann; Round 7 pick Ben Patrick; and Tim Euhus.
